I can't believe this. My hedgehog Malachite died last night. I was so not expecting this. She seemed to have stabilized from her ivermectin allergy and I had every hope she would recover fully. I am so sad and so angry at the same time.

I loved my hedgehog so much and it hurts to think I won't get to play with her ever again or just hold her and rub her tummy. She was too cute and too beautiful.

I will be doing a necropsy and if I find it was the ivermectin I am going to give my vet ****.

*blink* Oh my, that is horribly unexpected. I thought she was getting better. I'm so sorry to hear it has turned out this way. :(

Please tell us when you get the necropsy results!

I am so sorry. :( How unexpected. Other than the ivermectin shot had anything else changed with her?
Hugs :)

Everything with Malachite was the same as it always had been. She's been fed the same food she's always been fed, same bedding as always. Her living conditions were the same and she had a heat lamp and I monitor the temp of the house all the time.

Things started getting weird in December when I first took her to the vet. She had not been eating much and we determined she was a little cold (enter heat lamp) and that she had mites which were probably getting to her. The vet treated her with ivermectin for mites.

Almost immediately after being treated for mites is when she became wobbly and seemed to be confused. She would get better I would give her her next ivermectin treatment she would be more wobbly. I didn't connect the wobbliness to the medicine until after the second treatment of ivermectin.

When I brought Malachite to the vet January 2ndish I told the vet my concerns and she said it may have been the anti-biotic but it was defineatly not the mite treatment. She told me my hedgehog was in excellent health and that she seemed MUCH happier now that she had no mites. I allowed the vet to give her the third ivermectin treatment.

The next two days I awoke to find my hedgehog on her side unable to get up. After that she got better. Untill she died that is. I am conviced she was allergic to the ivermectin or was overdosed.

The necropsy should give me a more definitive idea.

I sure hope the necropsy gives you answers. Is it being done by the same vet who gave the ivermectin shots?

More Hugs :)
