Hershey is 15 weeks old, we got him on Jan 4 and he, as many kits probably are, was very nervous around us. We left him alone and hoped he would become more at ease with the help of Blue, our 13 month old who we adopted when he was 11 months old ( who is very much at ease around us ). Hershey stopped his warning calls after three days and after a week was running aroung his play area and jumping on us. Just this past week he is letting us pet him and jumps in our hands. We let Blue run around the apartment because he will go back into the play area and his cage with little effort but wanted to wait until Hershey was older knowing it would be difficult to get him back into the cage. Today we decided to let Hershey out, he ended out behind the couch with Blue and starting his warning calls. He was scared and would not come near us. We took his favorite tube and placed it in front of him, he ran into it and we put the tube, with him in it, back in the play area. He is still in the tube. I know all chins are different but for the most part was it to soon to let him out into such a big area? We let Blue out a couple of days after we got him and he loved the openess. Should we wait a two more weeks than try it again? Are there chins who like confined familiar areas?

chins are of habit, they know where everthing is, if you move a chair, and they dont know, they will think the chair is there, until they go to jump in it and find it not there.

he just needs to get use to the surroundings, and other chin my have scard him, it my just take him more time.

My two chins are just 3 months old. I let them out each night for an hour of playtime into a ferret playpen that is connected to their open cage door. At first, they didn't have access to their cage and I found that both chins ran around frantically trying to escape. Once I attatched a ramp from their cage to the playpen they both calmed down and started to enjoy their nightly forays. However, one of the chins, Rikki-tikki, chooses to spend much of his time in the cage. Pipkin seems much more comfortable with his time out.
