View Full Version : Where did my post go?!

My room is at 70 degrees. It's HOT in here. Rosie is toasty most of the time but still on occasion feels a little cool on her belly.
She has never sneezed, wheezed, or shown any signs of illness... however, she doesn't leave her bed much. She hasn't been eating as much as she used to, she doesn't drink as much, and she doesn't run in her wheel as much.
How do I know if there's something wrong? How can I tell if she's dehydrated and if so, how do I get liquids into her?
Who knew that having hedgehogs would suck so much during the winter.
What I don't get is WHY IS BRANDY FINE? Do albinos lack something that causes a lot of problems? I have no idea what to do anymore. I've tried everything.

Well, I don't know what to tell you if she's a hedgie, since this is the chin hygiene section, but I hope she feels better!

I need some help and I can't get it if my posts are being deleted.

It was about hibernation and dehyrdation. The same post was accidently put in the chin health section first.. but then I copied it over to the hedgie section. I was watching it for replies yesterday and today but when I went to look tonight it was nowhere to be found.
It was called "Stumped"

If you've tried everything your room would not still be 70 degrees!
70 degrees is too cool for hedgehogs. Some will do ok at it but for most it is just not warm enough. If she is feeling cool on her belly and not eating, drinking or as active as normal then she is feeling the effects of the cool temperatures. You need to get her environment up to 73-75 and keep it there as each time she gets cool it is weakening her immune system more and more. Just because she has no obvious signs of illness does not mean she has not been affected in a way that is just not visible.....yet.
Albino's are no more prone to problems than any other colour. Just because your other girl is fine does not mean that Rosie is less healthy, it just means you are really lucky with the other girl that less than normal temperatures haven't affected her....yet.
Having hedgehogs in the winter does not suck! It just means you have to have a way to keep them warm just like you would any other tropical creature.
I have 2 girls that attempt hibernation at 73. The other 20 are fine. :)

Well, with this statement, I am sure you are going to get some flack from all the other dedicated hedgie lovers here, and not much response to you question.
You need to make your room warmer then it is. If you can't take the heat, then you have to move them to another room. My hedgies are in a room with the temp at a constant 77-78 degrees. They do not like it below 75. That is just the way it is.
Hope Rosie is ok, and please keep us updated.

If they "suck" so much, maybe you should look into trying to find them a better home.

Having hedgies in the winter doesnt suck- it gives me excuses to have late afternoon naps in my bed with the boys!
Some hediges are just way more sensitive towards temperature than others. Just ask Nancy- she has two girls who she has to watch constantly because even the slightest temp change can make them attempt to hibernate (even when all the other hedgies are fine)
