Its totally crazy; my cat ignores the fact that there is a living creature inside the cage! She (the cat) has stepped into the cage with peanut inside before, and she totally ignored her and instead ate her food! It was so bizzare! Now when I leave Peanut in a container on the table while cleanign her cage, Fluffy will just sniff her then leave. Its really strange, does anyone have a reason for this?

My cats do that too. Actually, the 2 older cats totally ignore Jake completely. Couldn't care less. The kitten, Neville, likes to watch him and eat his food. But he hasn't tried touching or sniffing Jake. Just watches. My dog is 40 pounds and scared of my 375 gram hedgie. Are hedgies an animal that only a mother can love?

Odo likes to amuse herself by charging and headbutting Punk, the cat. Punk will try to take a half hearted swipe at Odo once and awhile but when he does, then he sulks off to nurse his sore paw.

My cat doesn't really pay attention to Merlin (my hedgie) either. They just kind of sniff each other and walk away.

I haven't had a cat and a hedgehog in the house at the same time, but I do have a cockatiel. He thinks he is pretty big stuff (he used to chase my cat around) and he likes to think of himself as the boss. He is always very interested in any other living thing in our house. But I can never predict how he will react to them. When we had the cat, he would chase him, he had no fear of him at all. When I had a baby bird that I was nursing back to health, Pierre was terrified of him. He would come up and peak at him and then freak out and fly away. When I brought my friend's baby ducks over to my house, Pierre was very interested. He stayed with us the whole time the ducks were at my house. But if they started to come near him, he would move back, just to keep a safe distance. When I brought my hedgehog Chloe home, he was very interested. He will follow her around and chase her a bit. If she turns around to get a good sniff of him, he freaks out and flies away. lol. During snuggle time, Pierre gets jealous of Chloe and will come and sit on top of her in her blankie. Sometimes, when he is feeling nice, he will gently groom her quills :) Its actually very cute to see.

my cat doesnt bother with the pigs she barely tolerates their existence. she wont go near them but when ihave them out with me she will look at them in disgust. my pig actually ran into my cat to burrow into her fur or something...and bit her! my poor cat shes like 17 years old! she nearly had a heart attack and ran and hid for most of the day i had to bribe her with treats! i can't believe my piggie did that

Griffin likes to EAT Murdocs quills. I had them out together once, Murdoc on my lap, and Griffin flying around just doing his thing. Griffin landed on my lap, walked over to Murdoc, checked him over and then bit off a piece of his quill! Murdoc huffed slightly, and Griffin freaked and flew away...We keep small blue birds away from the hedgies now

BTW- he didnt hurt Murdoc, just bit off the tip of a quill.

Pierre's favorite toys are toothpicks so I was worried at first that Pierre would try to pluck Chloe's quills so he could play with them like he plays with toothpicks. But Pierre is very gentle and I keep an eye on him too.
