other animals getting mites from hedgehogs

Has anyone ever had any experience where another pet they have has gotten mites from their hedgehog?

I asked the vet about that- apparently (and this is what he said, someone please correct if this info is wrong) they arent contagious to other critters, just hedgies.

When Chloe had mites the vet told us that the type she had were not species specific. I took huge precautions when it came to protecting my bird from becoming infested. For the first month or two that I had Chloe, she stayed on the top floor of the house and Pierre (my cockatiel) stayed on the first floor. Whenever I handled Chloe I washed my hands and changed my clothes. lol, this sort of portrays me as someone with OCD but all I know is that our house is now mite free.
