i took gir along with me to work today to celebrate hedgehog day. i work as a daycare director, so i was a little hesitant to bring her in to be molested by 100 little kiddies, but we both survived! i told them all about the REAL history of groundhog day and properly introduced them to how cool hedgehogs are. we did some activities and a craft with the kindergarteners in honor of both hedgehog day and groundhog day.

i didnt let any of the kids hold her, but they got to feel and pet and follow her around when i let her wander. she was VERY well behaved! i even had difficulty trying to get her to roll up all the way to show the kids how she protected herself. she was a little skiddish when more than one person tried to touch her at once (i dont blame her a bit!) but overall she was relaxed and very inquisitive. she was a BIG hit. im a little worried that parents are going to hate me for giving their kids a new thing to beg them for... :)

Sounds like a fun and interesting day for all of you :) I'd love to take my little Marigold somewhere like that ..she just loves attention:laugh:

That is very interesting indeed. I have been invited to several schools and a retirement center but am unsure how it would affect my hedgies. Still thinking about it.

Billy I think it depends entirely on the personality of the hedgehog.

Some of mine just soak up all the attention when they are out, but it totally stresses others. Smokey is a ham and is the most social guy. When I walk around with him he has to be watching where we are going. Forget the hedgie hauler with him.

With your gang, I'm betting Marco would be the least likely to enjoy it. :)

How exciting! I bet the kids got a kick out of seeing a "miniature porcupine" ;)
Annabelle and Oliver are the hogs I rotate with when I do educational presentations for the shelter. Annabelle puts on a show in her playpen and Oliver is a big schmoozer with the kids. Atticus is anti-social in new situations and shows just how a hedgie can ball up
Think about it Billy! It's a great opportunity to educate and brag about your quilled ones!
