I was wondering if any body out there know if there is some type of Leash I can buy for my hedgehogs? I would love to take them outside inthe summer time to play in the grass, and was just wondering if there was some type of leash that can be used for them??

Any help would be greatly appreciated :) THANKS

Ah the good ol' leash question. When I first came here I asked the same thing. Most people gave suggestions as to what may work but said that it probably wasn't necessary or the best thing. Being the stubborn, inexperienced hedgie mom I was, I insisted that it was necessary and that Chloe wouldn't mind it. So, I bought her a leash, one of the suggested designs. I tried to put it on her once and have not tried since. lol, she HATED it so much! I never did get it all the way on. Even if I had, I don't think it would work very well. Well I ended up taking her outside without it and then I realized that there was no way she would be able to run away from me as long as I kept a good eye on her. Plus, she didn't want to leave my side anyway.

So, I'm telling you from my own experience, leashes really aren't worth it, but if you have to try it for yourself anyway, I can totally relate, lol.

I wouldn't reccomend a leash. The hedgies don't like it because it bugs their quills. Thats what I think anyways.

I've never tried it either.

I cannot image trying to get a hedgie in a leash. It would take a braver person than me to try that one.

Thank you for all your advice...I just wasn't sure and thought I'd ask, since everyone here is so helpful :)..Marigold seems to love the attantion and I thought may b she would like a leash and like to go outside inthe warmer weather of course...Marigold never ever huffs at me anymore, she is the sweetest lil girl I have seen :) ...So I thought may b it was worth a try

If I did want to try one ...any suggestions as to what leash might be a good one??

I would recomend an invisable one, it just sounds like it would be so hard to get on them, and it would seem like it would make it hard for their little legs to function.

I mentioned to a friend once that I was considering looking for a leash.

He looked at Macy, and looked back at me and said, "Where in the world would you attach it?"

 I think he has a good point.

I wasn't meaning just a leash I was meaning like a harness type thing ( similar to what a guinea pig, ferret or rat would wear) I have tried them on all my animals so far (except hedgehogs) and I thougth it would be an interesting question to ask..I don't think I'd have any trouble getting it on her ..and just asked for suggestions ..IF I decided to try one :) which I may not even do

Oh and I really appreciate all your advice and will certainly take absorb it all in and consider it while making my decision :) THANKS!

A few of the suggestions that I recieved were the reptile kind (it goes around their legs or something, rather than their neck) I tried a harness type leash that was made of mesh because someone suggested it might be the best thing for the quills. Anyway, whether you decide against trying it or you try it and find it unsuccessful, just try taking her outside without it. I'd just make sure that there are no dogs around to ensure no accidents happen (I know only one dog that I trust around Chloe) and make the lawn is not treated with any harsh chemicals. When I take her out I put her down in the middle of the yard or in a small garden. If you are worried, make sure there are no holes or burrows she might go into. Other than that, you really have nothing to worry about and no need for a leash :)
