I went to the pet store today in our mall to get another heat lamp. While I was there I realised that they had two albino hedgehogs. They were sharing a 15 gallon aquarium (tsk tsk!) and looked to be about full grown. I figured that they must be two girls, but I asked anyways. The woman (who I think is also the manager) told me that they were both males  I asked to hold one and upon inspection, I realised that his stomach was bulgy meaning he was possibly pregnant  I told her that he was actually a she and of course she didn't believe me. She said "how do you know? (oh gee...take a guess). I dont blame her though because she probably has to put up with many other difficult customers daily. I showed her what I ment and she just said that the breeder that they came from musn't of sexed them properly  . Id rather doubt that  .
I really wish that the people at this particular store would make an effort to learn about the animals they sell. Petcetera, and the other local pet stores all try and educate themselves about the differnt types of animals they sell :applause: why cant they do the same? now they are gonna be stuck with a cannabalized litter (poor guys). I really wish that I could of bought her to at least give the mother a chance. :(

Don't even think about buying her Caitie. I'll email you with the storey.
Yes that store is disgusting and I have phoned the humane society on them before. The hedgies never have a place to hide unless someone has complained about it in the last hour. We've been there times they've had 6 in that same aquarium.
We were in there one time and the manager was about to sell a ferret to a woman for her 2 year old. Telling her a ferret would make a great pet.

I wouldn't buy her (she was $150 because she said that albinos are more desirable). I just think that she deserves a better home than that, especially if she may be pregnant.
I also noticed that she was keeping a veiled chameleon in a bug catching net.

There must be something that can be done about petstores like this. :banghead:

The only thing that can be done is don't support these stores by buying things from them. and report obvious violations to the local authorities.

I now have 3 hedgies instead of the one "male" I bought 2 weeks ago.

There is a pet store like that by me too. I hate pet stores that sell dogs cats or small animals. There is also another pet store by me that sells small animals BUT they do take care of them the proper way!!! I do give some credit. They dont just get them from hedgie mills. They come from a breeder in Indiana some where. IDK But I have called the humane society of the united states on the pet store in the mall and they closed them down for 6 months!!! Now when the USDA comes in they HAVE to show proof of where the dogs came from and then if it is not a place they can go visit they get fined and the place where the animal came from gets busted!!! All because I felt sorry for this dog(had bloody nose and bloddy male parts) and took him home and called the shelter!!!! They are soooooooooo mean. Selling any animal besides hampsters mice and some times snakes should be a BIG NO NO!!!!!!!!
I was just at that pet shop, they dropped the price down to $100.00. I wanted to buy the girl, but felt it is point less, as they would just replace it with another hedgehog. This situation is very sad.
