I posted awhile back that I was starting a chin book, this wasn't an overnight whim. So I have been doing more reading and studying about chinchillas.
One thing that struck me odd and in my opinion misleading was in the books and on several websites, I'll name no names or point fingers, that they stressed the fact that you should never house same sex pairs in the same cage, if you wanted to have a cagemate then you should have male/female pairs.
The last book I read said "housing male/female will not give you kits they will bond and you may never see them mate. A male/female pair can live happier together for a long time. If you do have a rare surprise litter then you can contact your local petshop who will help you sell your kits."

I know when you read anything you should take a grain a salt with it but if some kid comes along and reads this and follows their advice no telling what could happen.

To the point, all those who have bred chins for several years give me your thought and if you like through the book at me.

1) Why would an author who claims to be a breeder write a book like this?
2) Have you ever had problems with same sex pairs?
