Hi guys! I'm usually on the chinnie end of this forum, but I ran across an adorable, friendly 2yr old female hedgie that's available for adoption, but I was wondering how long they usually live. I know it's a basic question, but I also knew there was definitely people on here that would know the answer. Thanks!

I think 6-8 years. I don't know if that is right though.

I was led to believe that the average was between 5-7 years.

Thanks guys! That was very helpful. I am still very interested in getting this little girl that I saw, as I fell in love with her when she started crawling around on me like she had known me forever, but I think I want to negotiate the price a little that they are asking for her. Hopefully you'll be seeing me back with more new hedgie owner questions soon! :applause:

I agree. Although like mrgew said, there has been a 8-10 yr old hedgie before!

The basic rule I tell people is the 'mean' age is probably closer to 3-5 years. Around this time ailments are more likely (such as cancer). However, they can live to be much older. So be watchful around 3-5 for health problems, but be prepared to have a hedgehog for 8+ years.
I know of a couple of hedgehogs right now that are over 7 years. One just recently celebrated her 8th birthday and is still going strong. I personally had one who was 8 before cancer took her away.
