Ok, so I went to the one pet store I actually liked about half an hour from me, it's a large pet store chain (pets unlimited) but this store is smaller and seemed to be pretty good...well till today that is. So I went in there to get food and a few dishes for my crew, and well lets just say all I bought was food, and forgot about the rest...There they had in a small tank 2 full grown hedgehogs, the one closest to the front had mites so bad he/she couldn't even open their eyes, then it got up to walk, and could barley walk. it's fur was a MESS, all in all this poor little one was not well... I almost started crying, I was trying to find someone to let me hold it, but decided not to, I would have gotten to upset, so I just bought my food and walked out. I concidered going back to buy it, but then they'd just get more in and do the same thing over again. So right now I"m just trying to cool off. I am almost concidering taking Scooter in and showing them what a HEALTHY hedgehog should look like. But I know one thing for sure, monday I am making ALOT of phone calls. I've never been so upset. Needless to say, I spent ALOT of money on my crew today and spoiled them ROTTEN and gave them all kisses and treats when I got home.
This is insane... I mean even my BF who normally shurgs that stuff off, went back to see what I was so upset about, and normally he'd be like "he's fine" but he's like "yeah that guy doens't look good"

A friend of mine recently got a hedgie from there. I don't think she bought it, she has a friend that works there (I think). Apparently they had a litter born in the store. I hate to think how the mother got pregnant, and amazed that the litter survived. This was back in December, maybe those are the ones you saw.
Is that big albino still there? I always felt so bad for him/her.
Poor little critters :(

No, it was the one in Sackville, the one in Bayers lake is already on my bad side for other reasons.
Anyway my friend Daniel just called to complain for me and they manager was like "no he's fine, I was just looking at them" I was on the other end listening... I mean it's SO obvious that they aren't fine... anyone who doens't even own a hedgehog could tell that. I'm just a mess right now. Daniel told them that I would be willing to go in and help out and show them what was wrong, and they refused.

That's the problem with new and exotic pets. Most people who work in the pet stores don't know or care about caring for hedgies and chinnies. I bet the people there don't even know that there is anything wrong with him!!! :( I have reported the pet stores here in Kingston that don't treat their animals properly. Although some pet stores are fair and caring with their animals, the majority are just plain EVIL!

I'm already looking for a way to get back there myself with one of my hedgehogs to show them what a healthy hedgehog should look like. but my boyfriend won't take me back.
I'd like to buy him/her, but I really don't have the money to be able to buy it and then pay for the medical attention it will need. I wish I could conince them to give it to me.
but if anyone around here can buy the little one that would be great. they were $269.99

ps:if anyone does buy him/her I would help pay for a vet visit. We need to save these guys, they really aren't healthy and I can't see them living long in these conditions

But if you buy the little guys, then the store just thinks they should get MORE to keep in sucky conditions. I HATE situations like this...especially when no one will LISTEN when you say the animals are being improperly cared for. :(

Oh, I was talking about the one in Bayer's.
I'd chip in what I can if someone wants to get him. I can't afford/accomodate another hedgie right now (not that I don't want to!!!!:))

I know that they would just get more, but that's not really my concern, my concern is, this guy was in rough shape, I'm scared he won't make it. I wish I would have held him to see if he was warm or cold.
