Well i got Briar in November, and i just love him  , so i decided that it is time that i got another bundle of quills :) , I asked my mum and she said yes, after only a little convincing  and i have made the plans for a 4 story cage (2 levels per hedgie) it will only take up the same amount of floor space as Briar's cage now but it will be bigger. At the moment we are living in a rental, so i wont' get the hedgie until we move into a house, which will be in a couple of months. but i can't decide if i want to buy ( rescue) a hedgie for a pet store or get one from a breeder  Pet store hedgies are more expensive, and i know that if i bought one another would just come along to take its place, so i really am not helping , but i kind of want to help the ones in the petstores. But if i got one from a breeder it would probably be better socalised (sp?) i don't know what to do  Also i haven't decided what sex to get? If i keep a female above Briar, would either of them be bothered by the other

Get a breeder hedgehog or rescue a hedgehog from an actual rescue place not a petshop. I know it is so tempting to buy a pet store hedgehog but you're only encouraging them.

I don't think pet store hedgehogs sell very well. By buying them you are giving the stores false incentive to restock.

My male and female cages are on top of each other and I have not had any problems.

Of course breeder is usually better but as far as being social goes, I have both and I have to say that my most social ones are all from the pet store my daughter works at.

Caging above each other will not be a problem at all. :)

Julie, you have proven yourself to be very mature and responsable and I think that another hedgie would do just fine in the excellent enviroment that you have already provided for Briar no matter where you decide to acquire it. I really like this thread because it tells me that somewhere in this world there is going to be one more hedgie in a loving forever home.
