Alright, while I really don't want to purchase a hedgie from a pet store, I found that there are two Today's pet stores nearby that sell them. If anyone has bought from them, what do they charge? and do they carry any of the suggested supplies for them? I can't make it up to the store until later this month/early march, so I figured I'd get a bit of info on them before deciding to travel there or getting there and falling in love with a hedgie I shouldn't purchase. This is my last resort before looking for out-of-state breeders, because the nearest airport that ships animals is three hours away, and it's too cold imo for shipping the poor hedgie. /:

Thanks all.

I've heard of them and I've heard bad things. :( Not like really bad things. I don't remember the specifics but go check it out and let us know what you find :)

I am right near one. My family purchased a dog from there about 3 years ago..and a chinchilla about 2 years ago. This, of course, was before I heard bad things of petstores. The last time I went there, about 2 months ago...the animals really didn't look all that healthy. I don't want to scare you..but some of the hedgies and degus looked half way dead. They have been going down hill since they re-modled. I go to the one at the columbia mall. There is also one in Anapolis. I hope this helps.

I would not buy any animal from one of those horrendous stores!! I live near BWI and I have been to both the stores in Columbia and Annapolis - I hate them. They don't take proper care of their animals, they keep them in cages that are too small, and their associates are not very knowledgeable. Just look at those tiny, messy cages they keep those puppies in. I could barely fit my head in one of them things!!!!! And the ones that their reptiles are in..oooohhhh dont get me started!!! Some of those cages are smaller than a shoebox! :banghead: Please, please, PLEASE, DO NOT support these stores and allow them to stay in business by buying ANYTHING from them, much less a hedgehog!!! Plus, they are way overpriced, and given what the animal is usually put through at a pet store like that, they usually are not overly friendly, and are not handled nearly enough. Several years back, before I was educated at all about petstores, my sister bought a sugar glider there (at the Columbia store). It took a long, long time to socialize the glider, and she never was as friendly as the second glider my sister got from a breeder. The second one was sweet from the moment we got her. Please, buy from a breeder. You will be so much happier that you did!!!
