So,

We went to the top steak house in our area (http://www.themetropolitangrill.com/metgrill/metgrill.html) and had a bit of filet minon ($60.00 a filet) left over. I decided to see if Quest would eat it. (Had read that hedgehogs like red meat) Oh my gosh!!! She LOVED it!!! Jan was trying to hand feed it to her (the first thing outside of crunchies we've fed her that she is interested in) and she bit him. :| First, how much red meat is good for her. Second, I told him she was just excited because it was the first thing she really liked that we've fed her outside of her dry food. So, am I right? Could it be that she tasted him because he smelled like filet minon or is there some other issue? It's the first biting issue we've experienced. HELP!!! I don't know what I'd do without your sage advice.

I think it was the steak...the only time Zeek has ever bitten one of us is when we have just eaten something that tasted yummy and haven't washed our hands yet!

I agree, I think it was the steak as well. The only time Juni's bitten my fiancee was when he hand-fed him mealworm and eggs, and it was immediately after he had eaten the treats too. He's bitten me a couple of times too, but both were occasions when I'd used a different soap or hand lotion....so I wouldn't worry too much about it unless the biting continues...

yeah Annie as soo as she smells meal worms, she won't even look to see if its your finger or the worm, she'll just lounge at it.

Definitely the steak. I don't think they really know what they are biting as long as it smells good. (Heaven help me if I'm trying to give Alina a mealie and I drop it. The mealie can be right under her nose but she'll be crazy for a bite of my mealie scented fingers. She can't tell the difference.)

EDIT: Watch out! Your hedgie has expensive tastes.

I know I have to watch my fingers whenever feeding Chloe something that she loves. I have experienced many a nipped fingertip!

Fillet mignon? WOW! Talk about a gourmet treat! You realize Quest is going to expect this on a regular basis, right
My only advice is make sure it is well done and as unseasoned as possible! Hedgies don't need the extra sodium in seasonings. Please do not let my hogs catch wind that some hogs get *fillet mignon*! I will bake an organic chicken breast on occasion, but this vegetarian is not about to cook them a steak! :)

Hmm, mine both like turkey bacon, no fat and hey it forces me to eat a little healthier.
