Forgive me, I am new to hedgies and am not totally understanding the color determinations. Can anyone help?
First, my youngest male. He has about 40 % pure white quils.

And the female I was given because she was "a biter" Incidentally, she has nipped me only when I have smelled like food.

I know her picture isn't very good, but she is still very shy.

Maybe a snow flake for the first one, and a grey for the second.

Can you explain why you think this? I am brand new to this and need help understanding what makes each color.

rather than explain let me send you to www.hedgehogcentral.com they have a good color guide. Their genetic information is not correct but their descriptions for the color are pretty good. Ignore what it says about browns having blue scleras. All hedgehogs have blue scleras.

I think the second one is a chocolate. She is gorgeous and has beautiful rich colouring.
The first one is beautiful too. Not sure of his colour, maybe a brown although his quills are a bit darker maybe. Snowflakes are any hedgehog with 30% and more white quills. He might be in the lower end of the snowflake range.
Great pictures! :)

I still am not sure. I've been to that site many times, trying to figure it out. Would he be a dark cinnacot???

Probably not. I don't see any hint of orange to his quills but in real life does he?

Nope, not a cottie. Definately in the 'standard range' porbably a dark chocolate/gray. (Gray is sucha horrible term as they are never actually grey.)
