Hello, I recinitly bought a nine week old female gray hedgehog from a petcetera, she is just great, will uncurl readily and will eat from my lap, anyways they said to feed her nutreance kitten food for life(30% crude protine & 20% fat) is this good to keep her on or should I change it? I don't really think they knew what they were talking about because well she said she was a he and to give "him" a bath with water and dog after bath oil every week! she did the bath with the water and oil to show me before I brught "him" home, I didn't know much when I got her and wasnt sure that this was needed.... sure enough not one articale said to use the oil... most use plain water! also how big should she get?,

Hey there, welcome to the forums. :)
Anyway, I wouldn't suggest the food, the fat content is way too high. You'll find that most people here recommend Chicken Noodel Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul Lite and Royal Canin Slim 38. Also, you should really only bathe your hedgie once a month, and if you do use soap, use a mild puppy shampoo. There really is no telling how big your hedgie will get, they are all different shapes and sizes, but they are usually about guniea pig sized. Hope that helped some. :)

Do a search for dry skin- there is SO much info on ways to cure it for hedgies :)
Here are a couple links to get you started:

http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73229 - Not so much about dry skin- but explains bathing which can be used for dry skin (as well as quilling)
MANY more can be found by doing a search for "dry skin" or just by brousing threads in the health and hygiene section.

It is one of the better foods to feed your hedgie. Actually though if you can get your hands on Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul Lite version, it is one of the favorites here. :)
Wellness and Innova are very good also.:)

I feed my hedgehogs Nutrience cat food but not the kitten formula..because the kitten formula has more fats etc.. to help your kittens grow big and strong...Maybe try switching to regular or lite nutrience cat food instead :)

Getting her from Petcetera, you must be Canadian. Where do you live?
