Hi, I'm Diana and after doing research off and on over time I brought my first chin home today. We've named her Maddi. We don't know her exact age, but I was told she's under a year. I know it will take a bit of time for her to get used to me since she's not a little baby anymore, but I hope it doesn't take too long. I'm very excited about adding her to my furfamily.

We come in all shapes and sizes around here, DianaJ, so whatever your needs are, this is the place to get Chin-formation. I can attribute most of my knowledge about chinchillas and even helping me through a recent crisis to this site. Ask questions, make comments, and above all, share some pictures. Your new friend is adorable.

Au revoire, enjoy it here. It's extremely valuable here.

Hi Diana! Welcome! I was just curious, is that a Timber Hide Away house in your chins cage? If so, i suggest you find another because those are built with nails, and my chin nearly chipped his teeth on them. You never ever ever want a house put together with nails or screws because chins love to chew!

Man, I sure hate to be the devil's advocate but...

I have a Timber Hide-Away, and probably haven't had any problems because my chinchilla doesn't chew up her house at all. But yes, if you have a furry buzzsaw and it acts more like a termite, the dovetailed or notched houses are probably superior.

Where, my dear Juz2cute, does one get a better house? I wouldn't mind knowing myself.

It's pretty easy to just make one out of some pieces of pine and non-toxic glue. You can also find them on chinworld.com and there are plenty of people on the forum who also make them :D

I say get out the saw and the glue and make some crazy, huge house then. Let your imagination be your Chin-genuity. Heh. Because we're Chin-geneers. Hehheh. Ought to see what people build for their pets.

Dianaj, if you do become a builder, just double check all components are safe, I learned about wood treatments long ago, so be sure wood isn't treated. Otherwise, have a saw ready, you'll need it.

Thanks Juz2cute.
