Hello everyone I am new here and I am getting my first HH in about 2 weeks. I almost have everything ready for his arrival. I just want to say that this forum is awesome. I have one question I wanted to feed my HH as its main diet Royal Canin 38. Plus mealworms, veggies, and fruit 3 to 4 times a week. The question is, is it ok to just feed him the Royal Canin 38 as its main diet and not mix it with another cat food or do I have to mix it with another cat food? I really wanted to stick with just one cat food. Does anyone just feed their Hedgie one cat food and if so what brand?
Thanks
Kerrie

Your hedgie should have a mix of at least 2 foods, if not 3. One reason is to make sure they are getting the right balance of nutrition, and the second is that hedgies are very picky eaters and if for some reason you can't get the brand she is use to, she could very well stop eating. Some hedgies have been know to starve themselves.(or so I hear) With a variety...hopefully you would always be able to find one of the brands.

There is a really great post about nutrition here (http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54206) I personally feed a blend of royal canin slim, proplan salmon and rice, and wellness.

Some store sell bags of sample food. I try to grab a couple of these when I can because it works out better than buying a huuuuge bag of food when you only have 1 or a couple hedgies :)
Also, some sites send of free samples of food as well. Royal Canin and Buffalo Blue are just a couple that I know of. Also CSFTCLS has small bags of food for only $2.99 on this website (thanks to Billy for letting me know about it!)

It is trial and error with these guys. Aidan will eat absolutely anything I put in front of his nose. His brother Samhaim is very, very picky. So, far I only have him eating Wellness and Eukenuba whereas is brother is eating those two plus Innova and Medi Cal. I am trying to work out the Eukenuba and maintain the other three. Also, Aidan was more than happy to eat his first mealy a week ago whereas Samhain decided to lick it and not eat it.

Is it best to get CSFTCLS adult cat formula, light cat formula, or kitten formula?

I would recommend the light version of Chicken Soup.

I just got my first bag of the ccftcls yesterday. I got the light, it was very frustrating as they had the kitten formula in a trial size bag, perfect hedgie size. I now have more food than my Daisy will eat, I've thought about donating the rest to a shelter but I wondered if they would take an open bag. anyone here donated food?
