foraging?

I'm a newbie here and I'm planning on getting a hedghog in the next few months and am spending the time in between seriously studying up and getting its house ready.

I read on a webpage that you could scatter there food around their cage to simulate their foraging in the wild and to keep them busy...is this a good idea? I know it sounds like a good idea but does it actually work?

It definitely keeps them busy :) however rather than scattering their food in general around, I'd probably just do it with treats and keep their main diet in a crock...
