View Full Version : Why does hedgy roll over in his litter
My little white albino hedgehog rolls over in his litter box and has fun sleeping in it. Does anyone know why ?

Does he have a igloo or a house of some sort to hide in during the day?
Who knows why hedgies do half of the things that they do?

Cause they are Straaaaange wee creatures. I use paper towel in the litterboxes and Smokey sits and waits for me to give him a clean paper towel. Then he goes and rolls on it and flattens himself out to crawl under his wheel and then goes and eats. This is a nightly ritual.

Probably because they like to dig.

My Sam used to do that too. She used to annoint in there to. It kind of reminded me of chinchilla behaviour... chinchilla bath. Hedgys are weird little creatures, just go with the flow.

My older hedgie does this too, when I used kitty litter she would kick and toss it all night, and preferred sleeping in it over her hidey box! When I switched later on to small animal litter, she didn't play in it as much but I'll still often catch her hanging out in her litter box. Who knows.

Quest just started doing this. When I first got her I was told to use corn cob bedding for her litter (something that has now been corrected) but she didn't sleep in it. I've switched to Yesterday's News and she just has a hayday hanging out in there. She definitly is one that likes to burrow. I use Carefresh for her regular bedding and she uses the "underground" method of traveling most often. She'll burrow until she's under her food dish then surface and flip it over. Silly girl.
