Hi,
Im Carolyn im 16 and live in the Seattle area. Im new to the hedgie forums & the hedgie world i dont have a hedgie yet but Im need a little advice about somethings.Well im looking into getting a hedgie ive wanted one since i held one in my third grades class (it was my teacher's)
So, ive been looking up hedgie stuff like crazy. I dont have any supplies for a hedgie yet but im working on finding out the best things for them. Ive decided to make a c&c cage with a top to keep my 5 cats and 1 dog out of the cage and the hedgies face. :confused:Im still not sure what kind of bedding to use and food Ive heard they eat cat food and that lite cat food is ok for them. On bedding ive heard about this vellux stuff and something about a liner being in there somewhere. I know that the wood bedding gives them mites but since mites a are bugs how do they get there (my mom asked that)? What kind of wheel should i use looking for a relatively quiet one.Im having problems finding a breeder, shelter,or store thats close enough where the hedgie would not need to be shipped to me. any ideas? The most expensive thing so far that ive found is the hedgie itself well ones thatsare in state and not clear across the country. Already im a hedgie fanatic all i mention to people now is stuff abut hedgies. The last thing that was on my mind before i fell asleep was hedgies and they were in my dream(not complaining just weird)

Sorry this is so long :)

Welcome! You'll find a wealth of information here and a lot of people who share your passion. There are a TON of good threads that deal with the exact questions you ask. Just do a search with key words "wheel," "bedding," etc. and you'll get all sorts of helpful tips.

Keep an eye on the classifieds and petfinder.com and a hedgie should be posted on one or the other. Also, there is the hedgehog welfare society. They have a website, but I'm not sure what the exact address is offhand. Contact someone in your state and they can help you out too.
Good luck! You've come to the right place.

I know of a few people that breed in Oregon, but not any for Washington, so you'll have to keep an eye on that classified section for a good hedgie for you. - Jessica
