You were the sweetest little guy, and though you weren't technically "mine" ... I loved you as my own. I only knew you for about a week, but you were outgoing, spunky and full of curiosity. You were only 3 months old.

I have cried for two days.

The night before, this little guy seemed OKAY. He was moving around fine, he had eaten, his poos were okay, and he had everything he "needed". A friend of mine that is another chin owner had even held him for a few minutes.

The next morning, he seemed lethargic. NO OTHER SIGNS. I called my Exotic Specialist and had an immediate appointment. Within the next half hour he passed. It was so FAST.

PLEASE TAKE THIS ADVISE ...

The SECOND you get the feeling "something isn't right", contact the vet. I know this may seem over-zealous to some, but I have learned from first hand experience - they can hide symptoms of illness until it's too late.

PLEASE ... plan ahead. Know the numbers of your vet and emergency (after hours) clinics. Read up on the basic cares of chins in need so you can feel prepared WHEN things happen.

I did everything I was supposed to, and I still feel like it wasn't enough.
It hurts so bad.

The "Nameless" chin.

I know what you're going through and it's great advice you gave to consult a vet when something doesn't seem right. I'm so sorry to hear about your little guy. :(

He did seem fine. (I was the other chinchilla owner) He was active, seemed to be eating and drinking-no problems.
He was very friendly. I put my same in his cage and he jumped up onto my arm right away.
We may never know why you passed on, but you will always be remembered. :)

The same thing happened to my chin. We brought him home, had him all set up, and he was fine! The next morning he wasn't moving. I could feel his heart beat- and we called all the vets around us- of corse, on a Sunday morning, the closest vet was about 45 mins away, and the lady on the phone gave us the wrong directions. He passed away before we got there :(

I'm so sorry to hear about the chin! The vet said that Jake died from Bloat... the owners before us had to of fed him too many treats, or crap food... because bloat doesn't happen over night.

You loved him, and he knows that! Sending chinnie hugs your way!
