Hibernation Tip

I was checking out some information on hamsters at http://www.provet.co.uk/Hamsters/hamsters.htm when I came across a hibernation comment that could also apply to hedgehogs.

"NOTE hibernating animals should never be warmed in cooking ovens or microwaves !!"

My first reaction was to laugh, but then sadly I thought someone probably tried this at some point to warrant the statement. :(

wow...that is just awful. Sad part is I am sure someone has tried it. We have some dumb pet owners in this world.

That's horrible! It might've been a small child though trying to warm its pet up. Poor animal!

I know a kid who put his kitten in the microwave. I don't think it was because the cat was cold - the kid was just a moron.

What I find really unfortunate is some of the older books that are sold give really bad information on hedgehogs and other animals as well.

A few years ago I was in a book store and read a hedgehog book that said because hedgehogs hibernate if you are going away on a trip you can put your hedgehog in the fridge while you are gone and he will hibernate until you come back. Can you believe that! How many people bought that book and actually did what it recommended. :cry: :angry:

I went back to try and find the book so I could write to the publisher about it but we had been in some many bookstores that day that I wasn't able to find it.

That is insane! And downright scary.
