I was really looking forward to buying my own condo and not having roommates. Besides all the obvious reasons I was most excited about the hedgie room.

Now, I find my dad won't help me buy the condo so I'm stuck where I am till I either a) save enough for down payment on my own or b)graduate

Right now my hedgehogs are in my room, with the roommates I do not feel comfortable leaving them in the living room. I have one cage right now in my closet floor. ( I leave the door open during the day.)

I would like to get two or three more hedgies between now and I dunno next year. Would it be weird if I kept the other cages under my bed? I would put a light under there so they could get the 12 hours of light needed. I think this might be strange.

Also do you think the smell would be overpowering?

I see you all are so weirded out by my question you can't even reply. Keeping hedgehogs under bed must not be the best idea?

I don't see how it would be healthy for hedgies to spend their entire existence under a bed...they at least need some natural light. I'd say bad idea, wait until you get your own place.

When I think of "under the bed" I picture a space that is only about a foot high, and dark, and dusty. Now if you were somehow able to raise your bed a few feet off a ground, almost like a bunk bed, then perhaps it would work alright. Otherwise, I would say its probably better to hold off.

oh my bed is raised about three feet off the ground. I store stuff under it now like boxxes and a suitcase, etc.

I think if maybe they were wire cages, or cages that allowed alot of air flow (since they would be under something, and the airflow might be slightly restricted) you might be alright :)

It might not be so bad. However it is still a bit odd, but I think it might be okay. Hum, that's one to think about!

The only cages I will ever use are Plastic bottom wire cages or well ventilated rubber maids. Having studied my room carefully I have come to the conclusion I have room in my room for two or three cages not under my bed.

My main concern now is smell. Will two or three cages make my room stink horribly? As it seems I will be taking over ownership of my friend's hedgie Toby I'm a little worried my room is going to stink.

My mom moves down in July, so I guess I could live with the smell till then. However, I do not like the idea of my pets staying in a house I don't live in. I would miss them too much.

Sorry for rambling, I shouldn't be allowed to post when I'm this tired.

I have three cages in my room and keep the door closed part of the time and my room has no smell. Mind you, I use liners and paper towels for the litter box and the paper towels are changed daily. As long as you are clean, I don't think you should have a problem. :)

Id think your room might be a little "ripe" in the morning due to dirty wheels, but if you keep it clean in there, it shouldnt be too much of a problem. Using things like liners (Im not sure if you do or not) and paper towels for litter trays might help cut down the smell as they are easy to take out each day if the need be.

Also, what I do in my room since I have so many animals (everything lives in my room except for my bird and my dog) is I keep my window open the tiniest crack all the time to allow some fresh air to get in. I also keep my little heater going all the time so that it doesnt get too cold for everyone ( I have a digital thermometer to monitor temps).

As well, I keep my over head fan running almost 24/7 just to keep the air circulating so that it doesnt get stuffy and nasty in here. Keeping the door open during the day (like I think you mentioned you do) will also help alot I think.

There are also those air purifiers that alot of people swear by that you could always look into if smell is a real concern to you :)
