i came home for spring break, and i thought it would be a better idea to just bring her playpen home, along with her food and water dishes, her carrier, and her wheel. WRONG.

she got out sometime last night! i just went in there to put a new 'hot hands' thing in her bed, and she's not in her playpen! and i had the door open last night, so she could be anywhere upstairs. which really isn't a big space.... just two bedrooms and a bathroom, but still.... where is she likely to hide?

ok. i am calm.

i put her food and water out in the middle of the room. hopefully i'll hear her crunching away....

Oh no. I am not an expert on escaped hedgies but my guess is she went somewhere dark. Get down to hedgie level and check out any obvious places. When we had an escaped hamster we put food in all rooms something they couldn't resist and closed all the doors. That way we could tell which area she was in.
Good luck I'll keep my fingers crossed.

First thing I would do is block off each room. Thoroughly check the room she went missing in. Look under the bed, under dressers, under anything. Look in a laundry basket or any clothing she could get in. Don't sit on and couches or chairs in case she is inside it.

If she huffs, go to an area and do something that would make her huff, then listen. Once you have ruled out the room she escaped in, go the the next room. Probably the bathroom would be the easiest to rule out. Check any dark small space that she might go into.

Along with the food and water in the center of the room put her wheel also. Also make sure you block off the stairs just incase she attempts to go down there.

Good luck and keep us posted. :)

can they climb well? i've watched her try to climb the arm of the sofa, and she's not very good at it. can she really go down the stairs? it doesn't seem likely...

grrr. i have looked under every piece of furniture in that room, and i've moved all the clothes. no ruby.

Yeah a hedgehog could go down stairs. More likely then climbing though, she'll just fall down them. Do you have a dog? Maybe a dog could find her.

I know the have termite sniffing dogs, maybe there is a pet detective dog in your area?

i wish i still had a cat.... i used to have an elderly cat that would hide in strange places if he was scared. i would take our other cat into different rooms, and she could find the older cat in no time.

wait, i have an idea! my friend has a cat! i'll have her bring Cake over (her name is Cake) and Cake will find Ruby.

Yes she could go down the stairs and like Katie said most likely by falling/rolling down. I would thoroughly check upstairs first. Once under a dresser she might be able to climb up into the drawers. Open them very carefully and thoroughly check to make sure you won't squash her when you close them.

Can she get up into the box spring on the bed. If the lay underneath it and look up. Lay on the floor in each room to see what she would see.

I wouldn't bring an animal she isn't used to in as it might scare her into further hiding. :)
