Well, my hedgies Thistle & Morndred became the proud parents of 6 beautiful hoglets on sunday(13th).
I DID peek & all went well, i offered Thistle a treat like always, she came right out, I snatched up her ball/hut & took a peek-a-boo!
They are so cool, its totally different compared to a chilla kit.
Well, please dont scream at me. I really know the risks, but Thistle has bonded really well with me so far.. & she really doesnt seem to care that i mess with them. I'd say i have only looked in at them about every other day so far. I do plan to take more picutres week by week. I wanted to do ones of everyday, but i dont want to risk anything.- & that may be pushing it.
well, i hope you enjoy what i got.

6!!! oh my thats a lot of little ones! they are so cute. last year my girl accidently got pregnant...luckily everything worked out but i had to force myself to leave her alone with the babies which is hard but you could be causing stress that you dont realize...I bet you shake christmas presents too dont you;) Just remember this is a stressful time for you piggie and there is a chance that while your presence could be fine one day...the next day she could freak out and harm all those beautiful babies. are you keeping all of them? enjoy your new extended family!

Congrats!!!!
I'm so used to looking at pics of chinnie babies that it is still weird to see the little hoglets. They're very interesting looking when they are first born! Still cute though!
I've read about the risks of peeking too. If these are your first, I couldn't blame you! I know I'd want to peek too. Especially with 6 of them!!! I hope all goes well! :)

well, i think im pretty well connected to her enough to realize if she is wanting to be left alone. like i said i never force her out of the hut, i only peek in when shes eating, out playing, or running in her wheel. I really dont think there is a big deal.. i think if she were to be mean, she would have by now.. but im not going to push it also as i said.. i know the risk & it will be a great loss to lose one of them, but i REALLY want to have this experience to see them develope under my own nose. but honestly i think everything is fine.. she is a rather tame hog to begin with..& many other people have gotten away with it.. i LOVE photos, its one way of learning & i feel this is a GOOD experience for anyone owning a hedgie.
we do not plan to keep any of the little ones as we have quite a housefull already. We do have most of them somewhat spoken for though.
It truley has been an awesome experience & anyone with a breedable hog or two, i will recommend trying it out at least once.. -- but still ready up a lot on it & figure out where you will be selling them ect ect.
well, thanks for the comments, happy you liked the pix.=]

Hi Kate, congrats on your new babies..They are soooo cute, and I too would be unable to peek now and then, but be very careful because some moms will seem fine and then after even 3 weeks will neglect or destroy their babies.
Also...I think I have read in past threads that you should remove her wheel as some new moms have tried to run the wheel with baby in their mouth which could cause injury or even death, and some moms will even run so much that they neglect their babies.
Good luck and keep us updated.:)

i have read things here & there about that too, but i also read that its not a bad idea to let them have some run time.
I have been putting the wheel in there for only about an hour at most so she can have some 'self' time & run.
As of right now i have yet to see any of the hoglets out of the ball.. but i will for sure keep all the advice in hand!!!
thanks so much for not yelling! =]=]=]
& thanks for thinking they are cutie! hehehe

no no, im not saying you have yelled at me in general, i do agree when someone has another opinion they are entitled to it..
i just figured everyone would tell me how bad of a person i am for taking a peek & taking pictures.. but good to know no one has yet.. hehe =]
