My friends just don't understand hedgehogs!

I know hedgehogs are unusual pets but sometimes my friends are mean about it. They always "accidently" call her a porcupine. And they just have sorta a mean tone towards her. They call her quills spiny things. I know I shouldn't expect them to know everything about her but some things they say really hurt my feelings. I feel I should stand up for her because she truly is such an amazing animal :lovies:

Sorry I forgot to add something: Does anyone else feel this way about their pets and their friends? Or their family. My dad once called my hedgie a sack of quills when she was in her carrying bag. It makes me so frustrated!!! Does anyone feel this way too? Or is it just me?

Yea i deff feel the same way when ever my friends come over they dont wanna go in my room becuae of my hedgehog i hate it but my g.f loves its and she lvoes my birds too

My boyfriend doesn't want me to get a hedgehog and other people think I'm weird... but I get a baby next Monday from a breeder anyway. Plus, I think this way, I can maybe help them get over their issues with hedgehogs if they see how awesome they are. :D

My boyfriend makes fun of my hedgie obsession ALL the time (although I think he secretly likes them!) on occassion he has also called Bosco a little rat :(
While it may hurt, we all might just be being a little over sensitive (its hard not to be when it comes to our babies!). If it really bothers you alot, you might consider telling that to your friends. If they are really good friends, Im sure they will cut it out- since a good friend would never do something that intentionally hurts you.

I'm not even mentioning the hedgie I'm getting to my family. They aren't animal people and just don't understand the bond someone can have. My wife and I get critisized already over the 2 bearded dragons and 2 dogs we have.

my friends make fun of my chinchilla all the time, call her rat thing. it pisses me off. they call me weird for loving her so much. but i just roll my eyes and start ignoring them. i like echo better anyways ;)

Same. When I first got my chinchilla my mom called him a "giant rat" Now she loves him and calls him "cute little chinchilla" :) Your friends could change-just show them all the neat things about hedgehogs.

Hey, I've never had a hedgehog before, and I was wondering, Can you pet them? Or will they make their quills stand on end? And if not can you scratch them under the quills (like birds like it under the feathers?) Sorry if I sound totally stupid, but I was just wondering. . .
