View Full Version : Baby biting?

I have 3 babies that are a little over 4 weeks old; I've been handling them consistently for about a week and a half. The one girl LOVES to lick me; she spends all her time either licking me or sleeping in my hand. Except, now, she had decided that licking me isn't enough, she is now biting me, and HARD. She gives it all she has, which isn't much now, but it's getting worse as her teeth come in!

Is there anything I can possibly do to make her stop biting? She's so sweet other than the biting!

Firstly, make sure your hands are always clean and that you havent been handling anything else that might be entice her. That may help, but it seems as though some hedgies just have a thing for licking skin. For Murdoc its armpits. For Bosco its feet (and anything that has been around feet ie socks and shoes) and my belly button (no idea what is up with that).

Anyway, if washing doesnt work (remember not to use a soap that has a scent to it...they might like the way it smells/tastes) try not to give her the opportunity to bite. When she starts licking, distract her with something else. Hold her in a blankie or something so that your skin isnt directly exposed to her.

Good luck :)

Also, this is just a thought...but if she is teething, that account for alot of her biting. I know that alot of other animals (dogs, humans, etc) will go for chewing on things like crazy when it comes to teething.

If that is the case then it would be my guess that she may grow out of it after her teeth come in.

Im sure that someone else who has actually had young hedgies will be able to provide more insight :)

She is teething. Let her do it as long as you can stand it. They will grow out of it.

You know, I never thought of teething. That makes so much sense. Thanks guys!
