I am finding out that my little guy Herbie annoints to anything new I try to give him. I gave him cheerios today and he scarfed them up. I was so excited! Then he started to annoint like mad  Have you ever noticed if you keep introducing the same food will they stop anointing with it? Or am I just stuck with a picky hedgie

Other foods I have tried with no luck and annointed:

potatoes, grapes, yogurt, smell of peanuts bf was eating

Other foods with no annointing:

carrot, cheese, chicken, noodles, hamburger, apple, roast beef, egg,

Also annointed like mad last week when I had company and he smelled hairspray and cologne/perfume ( I usually don't use around him when handling him) It was pretty funny though

He may or may not stop annoiting in time. It just depends on your hedgie. Just keep trying to give him things and see how he reacts. That is the only way to tell for sure. :)

It isn't about being picky at all, this is a natural and normal behavior for hedgehogs and they usually do it any time they smell or taste something new. It may happen after eating it a few times, but normally stop once they are use to it. Be careful not to introduce too many new foods at once. I did have a client who took her baby home, only to introduce too many things in a short period of time, the baby had an allergic reaction and she had no idea to what it was since she fed too many things.
Good luck and don't worry- this is normal!

Thank you Vanessa and Michelle ! Very helpful info. I don't try to introduce too many new things to him, if we are eating something that i think he might like I'll give it a try, but not too often (also don't want to give him a bath after each time he annoints either  ) Interesting about the allergy info though. Thanks again!
