Hiyas everyone,
I haven't been by for a while but here I go with more questions..lol Both Cleo and Tony are being treated for mites since Cleo's never went away before and she gave them to him. They both got their second shots of Ivermectin tonight (last one was last Wednesday). They both get up to the first line 0.01. They both seem to be acting really funny tonight, almost like they're high. Cleo's not too bad but Tony is acting really odd. Look at the pics below, he's dragging himself around and just acting odd for his active self. Has this happened to anyone's hedgies using Ivermectin before? And should I contact my vet? Let me know.

P.S. These pics of Tony acting weird came out soo cute though!

I would call the vet and let him know. It doesn't sound good. Maybe the shot hurt him. I used revolution on my hedgies.

Well he did get real nasty when he got pricked, and got real upset. Unfortunately I called the vet and they're closed and last time I used the emergency thing they didn't get back to me till the next day :( I guess I'll have to call tommorow. He doesn't seem in pain though, just seems semi-drunk or something. Cleo's acting weird too so it may just be the medicine.

Revolution is prescribed by a vet and it is a topical liquid that is applied by the drop to hedgies. I've used it for two of my hogs and I think it worked faster and better than Ivermectin. I had to do three treatments of Ivermectin with my first hedgie Wally

side-effects of ivermectin CAN include a drunk like state.
I found this here http://www.healthdigest.org/drugs/ivermectin.html
Overdose Management: Symptoms: Asthenia, diarrhea, dizziness, edema, headache, nausea, rash, vomiting, abdominal pain, ataxia, dyspnea, paresthesia, seizure, urticaria. Treatment: Supportive therapy, including parenteral fluids and electrolytes, respiratory support, and pressor agents (if significant hypotension). Induce emesis or gastric lavage as soon as possible, followed by laxatives and other anti-poison measures.
basically if your pets are reacting to the ivermec you can't do anything beyond giving supportive care. Get some pedialite in a syringe to your hedgehogs. Hand water your hedgehogs several times a day by holding your hedgehog on it's back at a diagonal in one hand and offer a water bottle with your other hand. Make sure they potty. If they don't potty give a warm bath and massage them to encourage them to potty.

Thank you for the info. I'll call my vet tommorow and see if I should bring him in. I don't want to give him this medicine again so she may have to give me something else. Is revolution expensive? I'd get it either way but I'm try to make my money last (i'm out of a job right now) Yes he did potty (he never fails to poo during play time lol) and he was just up eating and drinking. I'll keep an eye on him though. Cleo seems to be fine but I'll have to make sure she poos. Thanks for the help!

A single dose of cat revolution at my vet clinic cost me $8 and a single treatment was all I needed for my hogs.

I do want to point out that a cat dose is not to be used entirely on a single hedgehog. A cat dose can do probably 5-10 hedgehogs. I use revollution exclusively on my hedgehogs, Ivermectin has been known to cause side affects such as drunkenness (normally temporary) or liver/kidney damage (can be permanent and even fatal) I don't know of anyone who has ever had any problems with a hedgehog after a dose of revolution, and you only have to dose ONCE instead of 3 or more times with ivermectin.

It took one tube for me to treat all 4 of my hedgies. Ivermectin is bad stuff. I have heard some horrible stories about it. Big hedgies get 2 drops of revolution. One on the butt and one on the shoulder. Babies get one drop each. Mites should be gone within 4 days. Keep us posted on your crew.
