I have had my hedgie about a week and he finally has gotten firm dark stool but i have heard that the food i am currently using is not good for hedgies (8 in 1 hedgehog food). i was looking to find him a better diet for him and have also heard that it will cause him to poop less which is always a plus. i was just wondering if chicken soup for the cat lovers soul is a good food alone or do you mix it with other foods? also how exactly do i change his food to avoid the green stool problem? thanks.

A mixture is always best to help provide a balanced diet. Try mixing CSFTCLS with Royal Canin 38 Slim. Both are excelent foods :) Its best to gradually mix the new food in and phase out the old. That way its easier on hedgie's tummy :)

HedgieSpirit's advice is what I would give as well. I've been using that mixture ever since I got my hedgie and shes doing great!

Many hedgies wont even touch their old food once they have had a taste of the good stuff (unless youre my Murdoc... )

I usually use 4 or more different brands in my mix. My main staples are Blue Buffalo, Royal Canin Slim 38, Chicken Soup adult and lite formula and then special kitty any flavor. So technically it is 5 types but 4 brands. Then if I am in the area where Wellness, Wysong, Innova, and Felidae are available I usually grab a bag of one of those to add to the mix. Since I use a large mix they adding in and out of the others has little to no effect on my hedgies.

:hello: Hey All, I've just found out were to find the Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul and my hedgies love it... My male is much better now, He use to have a hard time using the bathroom (Going #2) and after I got the CSFTCLS and gave it to both my hedgies my male didn't have all the trouble. But I was just thinking, Is it better to just give the Chicken Soup plain by it self or mix it with other good cat food?

Actually, my Samhain didn't like chicken soup at all. I think it was because it was more aromatic than the others in the mix. So I took it out of the mix and everything is fine.
