Just a question, but how much would you say you spend on your hedgie every month? I was also wondering were I could find Royal Canin Slim and Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul. I have looked at Wal-Mart, Petsmart, and Superstores. Does an ybody know where I could get it? Do I have to get it on the internet? I found it on the internet but it was not for sale. Where do you get yours?

I dont spend any money on my hedgies food per month :) I find that the food I buy can last me up to six months EASILY. I make small batches of my mix, and then store the rest in zip lock bags in the freezer. I also go around and buy small samples of different high quality foods just to add a little variety to their food.
So in six or so months I would say I have spent $20-$30 on their food.

You definently wont find Royal Canin at grocery stores or places like Walmart. I get mine at an independently owned pet store, but I have also seen it at PetCo, Best West Pet Foods, Pet Value, Pet Cetera (I think). If you go to the Royal Canin website there may be a thing that helps you locate a store near you that sells Royal Canin (same thing for CSFTCLS).

The Royal Canin is probably going to be alot easier to track down than the CSFTCLS- at least that is what I have found.

Ditto what PrettyHate says. If you just have a one/few hedgehog(s) the food from one bag will last forever. I found a really decent catfood one time (don't recall the name) that was on sale and it was this HUGE bag for about $15.00. I'd still have food left over (I bought it like a year go) 'cept it got left at Sarah's house.

That's even after my family cat gorged himself on it over the course of several months. He nibbled a hole in the bottom of the bag and ate at his leisure. I didn't realize it for quite a while. After that I moved it into a big rubbermaid box.

I got a smallish bag of Royal Canin Slim for about $12.00 in Feb. I've still got 5/6 of the bag left.

I buy my foods on sale and store the bags in my deep freeze. I am pretty lucky that I have a full size fridge/freezer for the animals and then a deep freeze for them as well. So I make my mix and store it in bags in the freezers. You can also buy from someone like me who gets large batches and sells small bits off, I charge $3 a pound + shipping or go in on several bags with a friend, make the mix and split it up.

I my last hedgie's lifetime which was four years I only bought three bags of cat food. So the cost of food intially might be a bit high, but it lasts a long time.

I bought my Royal Canin at Petsmart or Petco, = was 17.00 for a 10 oz. bag
I bought the CSFTLCS at a local Feed Store (if you go to their website it will tell you the nearest location for purchase) = 10.00 for a 6 oz. bag
I bought my Wellness Mix at a local Kennel (I went to their website and found out where my nearest location for purchase was as well) = 17.00 for a 8 oz. bag

Ok, justa few more (food questions that is, I'll probably have tons more :) ). I was thinking of mixing the CSFTCLS and RCS38 together, should I add one more kind of food? What time of day should I give him/her food? Should I always keep the bowl full? How much of each kind of food do I put in the bowl? (example-2tsp. of both kinds) Thanx for the help!

I make a batch of food (maybe about 6 cups worth) and store it all in a tupperware container. I would say that a 50/50 of the RC and the CSFTCLS will be fine :)

I give my hedgies fresh food and water at night. I give them about 2-3 TBSP of kibble (or wet food in the case of Murdoc). If you find your hedgie eats all of that, then you can always give him a little more the next night. Whatever is left over I leave in the bowl till the next night so that if they get hungry during the day there is something to snack on (except for Murdoc, his food gets removed so it doesnt go bad and make him sick). That night, I dump out the old food and put fresh in, as well as give fresh water.

Whatever food you dont use when you make up a larger batch can be stored in the freezer. I put it in large zip lock bags. Double bagging is a good idea to keep prevent freezer burn.
