Grooming

Do hedghogs groom? I've seen both of mine anoint themselves, but do they groom like cats do? (read: is this foot biting thing normal? ^_^)

I NEVER saw Q clean herself (accept for dust baths), but Zeek will sometimes lick his paws.

I have never seen my boy clean but he doesn't seem like the kind of pig to prioritize hygine. My first hedgie use to put her entire paw in her mouth and lick and chew it clean it was sooo cute. I have seen my girl hedgie that i have now clean herself like a cat does..but i have only seen her do it once.

Last night, Hemi decided to bathe herself on my lap during cuddle time. She put one foot it her mouth, chewed it, cut her own nails (kind of), and sucked on her toes. Then she did the other three. After that, she went back to the first foot, and sucked on it for a good 10 minutes. She started looking really peeved about halfway through. I guess it wasn't coming clean enough fast enough...or she'd figured out that it was really her who was doing the biting.

Chloe cleans her feet too. Usually I don't actually see her but I can hear her licking away inside of her hedgie bag. When I do see her do it, it is soooo cute!

I've come to the conclusion that both Herbie and Kahlua must clean their feet, especially Kahlua becuse her wheel is nasty in the morning and needs a major scrubbing but her feet are mysteriously clean all the time :confused: So she must clean them, just haven't caught her yet. Herbie's wheel on the other hand is rarely ever dirty, so I don't know if he poos off his wheel. I am just glad I am out of the nasty poo boots stage :laugh: I'd better not jinx myself though Kahlua might surprise me one of these days.

I seriously think she did it just because she hates water. She knows that I love washing her little feet, so she wanted to do it herself. Either way, it was really cute. Next time she does it, I'll try and get pictures, just so you can see the faces she makes as she sucking on her toes.
