I have recently taken in a foster hedgehog, Tiegen. She is about one year old and needs some love. Last night, I gave her a bath and then curled up with her in a towel to watch some TV while she got nice and dry. After she was finally dry and back in her cage, I checked out the towel and there had to have been about 20 quills on it. I've read in places that stress can contribute to quill loss and Tiegen was quite possibly stressed. The poor girl still isn't too sure if I'm safe or not yet. So I was thinking that it could be stress, in part because I haven't noticed any bald patches anywhere so it seems like her quill loss in fairly random. What does everyone else think?

From my own experience... Doris only lost a quill here and there until she got mites and then she was losing 5 - 10 a day in the beginning and now it is probably 20 + a day. Poor thing. If it continues you might want to take her into the vet but if it was a one time thing it probably isn't anything to worry about.
