Has anyone every had a VERY tired hedgehog before. Bandit, one of my males who I purchased from a pet store....mind you he's still very young, seems to be sleep walking around his cage today. I've had him for about a month now and he's never done this. he'll take a few steps (a bit out of it looking) and then close his eyes and fall into a deep sleep, then pops out of it a couple seconds later.....I just moved home from college yesterday and didn't know if he could just be tired from the stress.

Does his belly feel cool? He may be trying to hibernate. If his body temperature feels low, fill a pop bottle with warm (not hot) water and let him cuddle up to it.

A human heating pad on low under part of his cage will help also. Maybe it is cooler at your new place.

Just an update....Bandit is back to his old self running a muck in his cage. I really don't know what got into him. I had him out on the bed with me and he seemed to just come around and wake up. It was very strange but I guess things just happen.

Sounds like he might have gotten chilled. Is there any chance that his cage is in a draft? Like a spot where if the furnace is running a cool draft is blowing across his cage?

I had to transport them from Champaign to Moline yesterday and it was a bit blistery out so it could have been from all of that yesterday. I have a heater in my room and keep the temperature at about 78 degrees (I have a digital wall clock with a sensor on it).

Hi there. When you're going to be transporting the hedgie kids and there's a possibility of them getting chilled, I recommend investing in a heating disc or (the cheap way to go) a nylong stocking filled with uncooked rice and heated in the microwave (it functions like a hot water bottle). What seems like just a little discomfort to you and me could be really hard on the quilled ones.
