We just gave Herbie a bath and clipped his nails. My bf clipped and i held. One of the nails got clipped a little too short and started bleeding a little bit. What should I do?

I hear that cornstarch or flour will stop the bleeding, though I haven't had any experience.

I've also read that it's a good idea to take their wheel out for a night or so.

Don't panic, it probably happens to everyone sooner or later. Like Janine said, dip it in cornstarch or flour and it should stop :) Its easy if you have a bowl of the stuff and just stick the foot in.

Oh thank you so much! I just went into a panic and didn't know what to do. I remember when I helped my old roommate trim her min pin's nails and they bled and the little pup ran throught the whole house. I'm glad Herbie didn't bleed that bad. What a mess! The bleeding has stopped. Do you suggest I still keep the wheel out for tonight?

If it was me I'd keep it out just make sure that the bleeding doesn't start again. Hopefully someone with experience will have something to say :)

It couldn't hurt to leave it out, better safe than sorry :) Oh yea, I'm glad to hear that the bleeding has stopped.

Don't feel bad. It happens to everyone. The first time it happened to me I sat a cried. I think it hurt me more than it did her.

Hey, I don't know about ya'll but when I did all my reseach on hedgehogs, I made a binder just for all my hedgehog info to go in. I have a sheet that I printed out from a website and it was all on cliping nails....

" If you should accidently clip the quick in your Hedgehog's nail, FIRST remain clam. Even the More experience hedgehog qwners will cut too far from time to time. If the quick was only nipped the bleeding should stop in a relatively short amount of time. If continues to bleed, dab the nail in some Corn Starch to help it clot. Some owners will recommend using 'stop quik' , Others recommend against it as this product can sting and if the animal should accidently inhale the powder it can cause serious respiratory problems."

That is what I have about cutting the quick on hedgehog's nail... Hope this helps. :)
