Milkshake has figured out how to climb out of the small animal playpen I have. She's doing it again as I type. She's way too active for her own good.
It was kinda funny to watch. Once she gets to the top she balances there for a while, then leaps off landing perfectly on her feet. She's a little gymnist.
I think I might get a kiddie pool. She should have a harder time getting out of one of those.

My hamsters did the same thing. :) It really is funny to watch. I think i'm going to get a marshall's small animal playpen instead of a kiddie pool though. That way my hedgehog, hamster, and chinchilla will be able to use it.

Many of mine will climb it too, often the second I take my eyes off them. Those that aren't into climbing gang together and stick their noses under it. Who says hedgehogs aren't smart! :)

Why am I not surprised? She is just an all around trouble maker ;)

Aren't they cute when they climb? I recently bought a super-neat fold-away playpen for my hedgie at Pet Supplies Plus. It unfolds into an area of about 4 square feet, PERFECT size for my 8-something month old. It stands about 10 inches tall. I had started using it to let little Harley safely explore and go tubing while I cleaned his cage and refilled his dishes each morning. I learned a lesson one morning, though. Harley was in his pen, I was cleaning his cage (with my back to him) and suddenly I hear my hubby yell and lunge for the table where Harley's pen was set up. I whirled around it time to see him catch Harley tetering on the top of the playpen fence, all the while my Cockatiel went flapping indignantly off my husband's shoulder, where she had been peacefully napping. It was a MOST amusing site! Anyway, Harley was TOTALLy unphased (having landed softly and safely in my husband's hands), and ever since then the game has been ON! I still put him in his playpen each morning to wake up and get "cleaned out," but I do NOT take my eyes off him for more than two seconds! They are SUPRISINGLY good climbers!
BTW, this is my first time posting. :) I've been reading and learning for the last few months. I bought "Harley" - my first hedgie, a 6-something month-old male - about three months ago. Made the mistake of buying from a pet store instead of a breeder, but he's got a great personality and is coming along nicely! :)

Congrats on Harley! Odo, my first, came from a pet store too. She is just perfect in everyway and I have never regretted getting her.

Nigel is the crafty one of the two here. When I clean their cages I put them in a small tub [not at the same time!] With a little effort, yes, I know they can escape, but I'm not too concerned, because I keep them with me in a closed room so they can't go far.
Miss Marple makes no attempt to escape, she wanders around, sniffs and stares at me until I give her back her wheel. Nigel, the second I set him down he leaps for the walls. Sometimes he just hangs there and stares out, but often enough I'll find him wandering around on the floor. Silly little bugger.
