Hi, I was wondering about traveling with a hedgie. I know how to, take a small animal carrier/small cage with them in it. But what about when you get to the destination? What do you house the hedgie in when you get there? I would think of just taking the whole cage but what if it doesn't fit? I have 6 people in my family and the car can get jammed sometimes. Would a playpen work? Or is it better to just not travel with hedgies and get someone to take care of my hedgie for me? I would have trouble with that because I don't trust anyone but me with my beloved pets  . All help is really appreciated!

I guess it would depend on if there were other animals where you were going that could get to your hedgie in the play pen. Would the room that the play pen is in be hedgie proof incase he escaped? Here is an odd suggestion...but could you house him during the visit in the bath tub with fleece and a warm hedgie bag. I know of a person that her hedgie lives in the bathtub.
I have housed hedgies for a night or 2 in medium cat carriers while traveling.
Is there a breeder or other hedgie lover that lives near you that could take care of the hedgie?

Thanks hedgiepets! The bathtub idea isn't bad. and yes, there is a breeder near me but I don't know if they would want to, I wouldn't want to be a burden. I know of lots of hedgie lovers near me but none really know how to take care of a hedgie.

Geez, one more hedgie isn't a problem here. As of this morning, there are 28 hedgies here. I just had a litter of 7-8 babies.

When I take my girls on the road I have a scaled down version of their sterilite home. Sometimes I cannot take their bucket wheel so I make up for it by taking their play pen and making a make shift obstacle course with what ever I can find. I also give them as much play time as they want. I prefer finding a room I can hedgeproof, and leaving them in their playpen the whole time. Usually, I am taking them to my boyfriends house in Louisiana. So They have two homes, a complete set up at my place here in Houston and a complete set up at his, so that I only have to bring them in their carrier. I'm with you, I don't have anyone I can trust with their care yet, they are still youngin' and like to cause trouble. :)
