Please help me! I am having trouble handling my new hedgie. I got her on Sunday. I tried handling her today, it didn't really work. When I pick her up she tries to run out of my hand or lap, or huffs and runs away. I feel like I put to much stress on her today when tying to handle her. I picked her up, and since she wasn't sitting still I tried putting her in a playpen. When I tryed to pick her up again she would run away and I couldn't grab her. When I did she would run out of my hands. I feel like this was to much stress for her. I have handled older hedgies before, and don't mind handling a grumpy/poky hedgie, but what about her? I can't handle her if she keeps on running! Please help me, I feel like a mean hedgie mommy!

(and I feel like I lost all trust she had of me, and that she doen't like me any more)

She may just be a runner personality and just not want to sit still. I have one boy in particular who I can hold for maybe 10 seconds but the whole time he is struggling to get down so he can explore. Have you tried picking her up when she's inside a hedgie bag and see if she will sit in it on you. :)

Also you can try to interest her in some mealies or other bugs. Start with her in her cage with you hand feeding her. (I use forceps to hold the bugs) Once she accepts food from your hand you can try it with her in your lap.

Have you tried sitting in an enclosed space that she can get down in and then crawl on you so she can explore and then come back to you when she is done? This could also get her used to crawling and exploring on you. You could put some treats in a hedgie bag on your lap.

I just want to say THANK YOU!!! to all who helped me out! I spent some time again with her just now well watching a movie, and she fell asleep through the whole time! She didn't huff at me at all! (except for when I had to get up :))

You want to see a hedgie running? lol Come over and watch Frodo!
There is simply no way to hold her. She never stops moving and squriming (sp?) around.
It sounds like as Nancy says, you've got a runner there. lol
No reason to think that she dosen't like you anymore, she is just being who she is.
