I've come across a few buyers wanting only females and I've tried to explain to them overall my males are more relaxed and well behaved than my females. I was just wondering what other people preffered or what you experiences have been.

My past hedgehogs were two females. One was barely tame (she would uncurl for treats, and if I held her long enough) and the other female almost never uncurled.
My current 3 are 2 females and a male. One of the females will uncurl fairly quickly, but is still huffy and on edge the whole time she is out. Her brother is more relaxed, and quite easy to hold. The unrelated female is a dream. She is so sweet and friendly and relaxed.
So, I've owned females that refuse to uncurl, to ones that almost refuse to curl. Since I've only owned the one male, I can't really compare him to anything else, but I know that males would range in temperament just like my girls.

There is no difference at all between males and females. I have grumps in both and wonderful in both.
I also have people who want a female because they are under the impression they are nicer. :)

i'm honestly not too sure, it seems the females i've come into contact with took moore time to tame. this was not true of all of them more i've had one difficult male. it really just depends on the animal and thier environment i think.... :)

Hello,
I think there is no real difference in temperment. I have had really grumpy girls and boys. Right now I have a really sweet female that loves to be handled and another female that is really grumpy. I think most new owners/buyers prefir females not because they think they make better pets, but becuase they like the option of breeding the female in the future. Most people who are uninterested in breeding usually do not care which gender they get as long as they get a HH. Or they will ask for advice in choosing a gender.
Well that is my 2 cents :) !

I'm with Nancy on this one. I have girl grumps and boy grumps ranging from 8 months up to 2 years. Everyone is an indvidual and both have their pros and cons :)

I know I'm a bit late to comment on this but I think both sexes are equal. I have male and female Hedgies. My male, Nuka, was handled more then my female, Zoey, and He is a lot nicer then she is. But I haven't handled Nuka in a while lately but he is still sweet as can be. As For Zoey she was a hermit. She wanted to be alone and not be touched. I kept on trying but she was huffy and mean. But Since she got sick and is deepening on me, She opened up and is just now starting to trust me more. I think, People think Females are better because you can keep 2 in a pin for play time and males you can't. Just because you can't doesn't mean that males are harder to tame. I believe it's all in what environment the hedgehog was brought up in. And If the Hoglets were handled the right way!
