I have a house keeper that comes to our house every second thursday, and she vacumes everything, including my room. I was wondering if the loud vacume right next to the cage (the cage is on the ground, but I could put it up on my bed) would scare my hedgie. The first week I got her I just asked for her not to clean my room, and that worked. What should I do this week? Should I keep on asking her to not clean my room? Thanks a lot :)

I wish I could help you out with this one, but i'm wondering the same thing. I just got a rescue,Honey, and she isn't use to me just yet. Today she went nuts on my shoes... She would ram into them and bite them. My Boyfriend comes in from work and sometimes has the TV or radio a bit loud. I alway turn it down but he says he can't hear it. So, I throw a shirt of lite sheet over Nuka and Honey's cages so it doesn't go right to them. Do hedgehogs have bad or good hearing? Does it hurt their little hears if there are loud sounds?

I have two rescues that are up for adoption, pregnant females, and nursing moms in my hedgie room. I vacuum not only with a shop vac but a regular vacuum after that as well. No problems. The hedgies may huff at first but they get used to it. Like human babies, once they are used to a noise it is no big deal.

True. I was just wondering about the hedgies ears I don't want to hurt them in any way. I guess I need to start studying hedgehogs again... Thanks Robin.

Hedgies have pretty good hearing...at least, mine do. I don't think the vacuum would actually damage their ears in any way, but it might startle them a little. If you're really concerned about it, try playing the radio for them durring the day so they will be a little more accustomed to noise and it won't scare them so much.

I have the radio going whenever I am out and the house is quiet, but not loud at all, very quiet.
