View Full Version : Weight Loss after Pregnancy?

I don't know if anyone remembers, but Bridget, the little cinnacot pet store girl who caught me off guard with a surprise litter, has been losing weight gradually since she popped. I didn't have a chance to weigh her before she gave birth, but about two weeks later I was able to weigh her and she was about 295g (april 24). She has been eating regularly.

I have been weighing her 1-3 times a week, and now she is down to 205g (may 20). I just switched her over to a combination of HSD a/d along with the regular hh mix. Is she just burning off all of the stored up fat she gained over her pregnancy, or could there be another underlying problem?

It may just be normal after pregnancy weight loss but if you didn't started weighing her until 2 weeks after delivery I would think 90g is quite a loss.
At 205 she must be tiny. Does she seem thin or unhealthy?

If you are worried take her to the vet. Dr Chamerlain at Beardalls is the only one here who is good with hedgies and she gets lots of experience with my gang.

Since she gave birth on the car ride home, I never had a chance to weigh her and since I was virtually unknown to her, I didn't want to risk a cannibalized litter.

She is eating, but not quite as much as the bigger guys. She is only supposed to be about 8 months old, so she probably isn't finished growing either. She doesn't seem sick (lethargic or weak) when I hold her and she is a very avid wheeler.

I'll talk to the vet at Beardall's (this one already dealt with my Frenchies) this week.

Thanks Nancy!

At 8 months old she would be full grown although she may fill out a bit more.

A 90g weight loss is almost a third of her weight which is quite a bit.

I've spent so much time and money at the vet lately first Peaches, then Kesia and Kei and Kei's problem is continuing. They should name one of their new examining rooms after me cause I swear I paid for it or will have by the time Kei is diagnosed. :(
