I believe early this year someone was posting here about two hedgys that were at a PetCetera store in Mississauga. The end of the tale was the two hedgys were sent to the Kingston store where they could be taken care of properly.
Low and behold, I walked into the same store tonight and there was single hedgy with no wheel, no hidey hole and too much light. There was no price on him, so he may not even be for sale. I know the individual from CNQ was promised that they would never have hedgys again! Interesting. :banghead:

WOW! This is so sad. Is there no one to report these situations to in Canada? I know that even in the states it's often difficult to get the USDA to do anything about animals being mistreated in pet stores, but it just seems wrong that there is no regulatory organization...

Sounds like the time I walked into the PetCetera here and saw a baby hedgie with in a glass tank, no wheel, no house, and who had really runny poops. I filed a complaint and havent walked in that store since.

Ditto.
That's exactly how my local petstore used to be. About a month ago I was ready to bring in info from my vet saying that cat food was the suggested diet, not vitakraft so that the poor things could at least have a decent diet but when I went and every time I have returned, there have been no hedgies. Maybe someone else complained or they just stopped selling them on their own. Either way, I am happy no other hedgies have to be sold through them.
