does anyone know what kind of plants would be safe to have in a hedgie cage, thinking of making a "natural habitat" for them but not gonna till I find out what for sure is safe and what is not.

I would think they would also have to be safe to eat for the hedgies, in case they take a bite out of one. I don't know any plants, but whichever ones you chose you should make sure that they don't have any bugs (like aphids). Good luck!

I would probably not use those, since they would most likely to be made out of plastic and if a hedgie took a bite out of that I don't think they could digest it, but if it is tough enough so that it couldn't be riped (or chewed off) that would be a good idea :).

I've been thinking of trying organic wheat grass. It's really easy to grow and supposedly safe if ingested. It's not super pretty or anything but I think the hedgies would like wandering around in it.

What does organic wheat grass look like? and how do you take care of it?

can't you get the wheat grass at petsmart? for cats and dogs?
It looks just like grass...nice and green. I think that's a good idea.

Yup...that's the stuff. You can also get it in health food stores for people, or just go to a garden store and buy seed which is generally cheaper.

I would think plain old grass seeds would be safe as well. Just a guess but I think most of us let our hedgies play in the grass in the Summer if we know it's chemical free. You might also check out the ASPCA's site to see what's safe for dogs and cats, that's not a guarantee it's hedgie safe but generally they are fairly in line with dogs and cats health wise so it would be a good place to start.

I know out in the wild they eats plants and bugs and I would like them to feel "at home" as much as possible and they get fiber and other nutrients from plants that a lot of the hedgie foods and cat foods dont not have. still looking for some plants that would be good for them but also safe I thought about wheat grass but wasnt sure about it but I would think that it would be safe gotta do a little research if I find anything I'll post it and let ya all know because I am sure I am not the only person that has though of this idea for their pets.
