For those who feed blueberries to their babies - I noticed that the skin of the blueberry has the possibility of sticking to the roof of hedgie mouths. I know I'm probably being OVERLY PARANOID (what else is new?) but just thought I'd mention it as something to look out for. I still feed blueberries, but I squish the innards into Razzle's treat bowl and throw out the skin. He doesn't mind at all (in fact, he seems to like it better). Better safe than sorry!!

That is a good point. I've heard the same thing about peanuts...mind you I've never tried peanuts on my crew. But mashing them up is a great solution. And never feel bad for worrying about things like that, it just might save their lives!!

Great suggestion! My hogs would just fling the skin out of the cage anyway :)

I do the same thing with grapes. With blueberries though, I actually purchase these little blueberry treats that are sold at a Sugar Glider site. They are tiny enough not to cause problems, my hedgies like them, and they can be kept in the refrigerator for some time.

Here is where I got mine:

I tried blueberries on Hemi today. She looked kind of disgusted at the whole squishy aspect of it. She doesn't like getting dirty, I've noticed. (She very seldom poops on her wheel and she washes her feet every night - breath mint?)

She did, however, really enjoy the blueberry juice. She licked it off my hand. And then, when I thought she was going to eat the skinless, mushy blueberry, she just sort of dropped it into her litter box. :dunno:

Should I be doing the same work for apples and peaches?
