A few weeks ago I brought my hedgehog to my cousin's house.--He owns 9 hedgehogs. The six girls all live together in a room thats divided in half and get along great. So we let my girl play with one of his and she loved it. So we just kept adding one more until all seven were together. I have done this a few more times since and they get along fine every time. He babysat my little pig for a weekend too and she slept with his hedgehogs the whole time.

Based on that do you think its a good idea to get another girl hedgehog to keep her company?

Thanks,
Jessica

My girls love having company and a few have been housed together before. I think that if she seems to enjoy the company then it might not be a bad idea to get her a playmate. Just make sure they get along when you first introduce the new girl to her. If all seems to go well then she'll have a new friend.

I just read the new Hedgehog Welfare Society Newsletter, and it has a great article on co-habitating (spelling?) hedgehogs.

You should go to their site and check it out! Their website is http://www.hedgehogwelfare.org/

Next you should click on "The Newest Edition Of The HWS Newsletter Is Here Click This Link To Read It!" and the article is the Newsletter #16 (May-June 2005)

Hope you enjoy it!

Be aware that just because your hedgehog gets along with your friend's does not mean that she will necessarily get along with another new hedgehog, or that the new one will have any desire to have a roommate. Personally, I would NOT get another hedgehog just to provide a roommate for the one you have. If you already want another hedgehog, and are willing to deal with two seperate cages if they don't get along, then that is another story. Make sure that you keep the new girl seperate for a month or so before putting them together to protect your current hedgehog from any possible illnesses that the new one may be carrying.

I agree with Becca.
Hedgehogs by nature are solitary animals. To get another just to provide companionship would probably not be a good idea. However, if your prepared for the fact the they might not get along or might not get along all the time and are prepared to house them separately then getting a new hog could be something to think about.

I already have another set up for a hedgehog together--I just made Bear a bigger one. My brother has a small room for seperating new animals because he has reptiles to keep a new one for about 2 months--just to be safe. So even if Bear and a new hedgehog don't get along everything would be okay.
Thanks for Your Replies,
