Alright I'm planning on going out to Colorado this October for the big hedgehog event. I just had a few questions though seeing as how this is my first time to an event like this.
I would like to take a few of my hogs to the show part of the weekend. but I'm not sure how to show a hedgehog...if anyone has done it and can sum it up for me so I don't feel like a complete idiot that would be fabulous. :hyper:
Also if I'm unsure about the coloring when I get there will someone be able to direct me to the right category?? :dunno:

I went to my first show last October and I knew nothing. There was someone there that classified my hedgie's color. I stood behind the table and held my hedgie. It was very easy! And she won Best of Show!

Does a hog need have a pedigree, or is there a section dedicated to those of unknown lineage to be shown?

I'd love to take Hemi to a show...but there are never any in Edmonton. I too would like to know if there are sections for the un-pedigreed hedgies.

No, Oreo has no pedigree and won! There is a show in Anacortes, WA in Oct., the weekend before the show in Denver.

There are plenty of people who show unpedigreed hedgehogs. It is actually one of the things that many rescues love to do... Show someone's unwanted hedgehog and to have it win. I know it is one of the things that Standing Bear has pointed about about showing his rescues before.
As to showing, you basically just wait until your category is called, and your name. The go stand behind a table and keep your hedgehog corralled. Depending on the judge, several of them have explained things about my hedgehogs or whoever's I'm showing (I often handle for others). You can learn a lot about body conformation.

Check out the IHA homepage www.hedgehogclub.com or the Hedgehog Welfare Society at www.hedgehogwelfare.org
Both have calendars listing upcoming shows.
