Hello everyone,

I recently was notified that someone is using nicks through IMs that uses a nickname that resembles mine. This person is sending threatening, harrassing and otherwise nasty messages to people using a similar nickname (kalandracnq is one).

If you have received one of these, please be aware that they are not me. I suspect this is coming from someone who has been banned from CnQ and who desires to continue to harrass members of this forum.

I have my guess, and suspect the person has sent or will send messages to others using other CnQ user's nicknames. I guess my word of caution right now would be if you suddenly get a threatening, harrassing, nasty message (IM, PM, etc) from someone, be suspicious.

i have been the one receiving the messeges & find this not to be a laughing matter for you or me AT ALL!!

Its ridiculous the lengths some people will go to in order to try to make someone elses day as bland as theirs!

Im VERY sorry i thought it was you, but having that name i only went from that. You have never been mean before thats why i thought it was rather odd, so yes, i took it to the Mods.

But either way, people REALLY need to get a llife! heh

again, im sorry your name was chosen to do & say such hurtful things to me!(& maybe others)

It is ridiculous and quite sad that this person is having a good giggle at our expense. ISPs do keep track of who logged in at what time on what IP so you can be tracked.

Here are a couple of tips I came across while browsing on this topic:

* If the harassment escalates to fake emails, abusive emails and stalking, print out copies of all emails, and any thread URL's plus post numbers to the E-Crimes division in your state.
* You can also forward copies of any abusive emails to the sender's ISP. To do this click forward and send the entire email, with an explanation to abuse@theirISP.com. Insert their ISP where it says 'theirISP'.
*** I'm assuming that most instant messager's do log the IP address.

Here is also an interesting tidbit on GigaLaw.

thanks!!!!

I will for sure have to look into that if i get any other threatening emails, or IM's. At this point in my life i dont need this stress, nor the hassle of making sure my name isnt slandard!

Well, now this is interesting indeed.
Yesterday I recieved a really nasty e-mail from someone named "BlueBuds". I simply deleted it. I will respond to a intelligent letter reguardless of content but refuse to lower myself to the level of responding to garbage. I thought that BlueberryBuds was mad at me and sent the email. I no longer believe that to be true and hereby apologize to BlueberryBuds for thinking that.
I believe that if you write something, no matter what it is, and use a fake name then you are a coward and your words are of no consequence and are to be dismissed as the rantings of a fool.
Also, it has come to my attention that someone seems to have written to BlueberryBuds saying nasty things about her, her arriving child and her marriage status. This is completely unacceptable. I know that BlueberryBuds and I have disagreed on things in the recent past, but to insult an unborn child is the lowest of low and again, the mark of a coward. Her marriage status is nobodys business but her own and quite frankly should not be the concern of anyone on this board.
If I recieve any other communication which I suspect is someone using someone elses name then rest assured, I will go to the greatest lengths to track that person down and employ whatever legal recourses may be available at that time.

Did you completely delete it or did you just put it in your email trash. Since you have an email it might be easiest to find out who sent it from your source. Seeing as how things like this shouldn't be taken lightly. Well I hope someone can do something.

No, I placed it in the trash bin but Incredimail emptys the trash upon closing so I lost it. I should have known better but I just read the opening sentence then dumped it. I've gotten hate email before and I always just dump it. I know better now though. I kinda wondered how this person got my email though because I thought that my email was not supposed to be available to the public.
I know better now though.

I think in your profile there is a section to send an email to someone. Don't know if that's how they got it or not. I wonder if there is a way to have that removed so further incidents don't occur
