I was wondering if someone could explain how you go about picking up an animal that has been shipped via the airline. I know where I am supposed to go... but am still quite confused.

You should call the airlines. Sometimes it will go the cargo office and sometimes it goes to the airlines luggage office. I always call ahead an ask.

I was already told that I am supposed to go to the baggage claim for the airline (continental). But I just don't know what to do when I get there. :dunno:

Basically you wait till the flight arrives. If it's Quickpak the quickpak has it's own pickup location (atleast it did as JAX).
You can always ask people that work there.
Once the flight arrives it takes a little while for the cargo to show up. They have a paper you sign and you get weird looks for picking up a strange animal.
Don't worry if you get confused there are airline workers to ask.

Okay... what happens if I can't be there when the flight arrives??? It gets in at 5:31 and at the earliest I could be there at 6:00/6:30.... is that bad??? What will happen while they are waiting for me??? :S

That's probably not a good idea. I don't know what happens if you're not there when the flight arrives. I would either get someone else to pickup for you or find a way to be there.

Great.... :S I am driving to Kansas City from Ames Iowa (which is a 3 1/2 hour drive) and I am supposed to work until 5. I was taking off early already... and my bf is driving and he can't get off earlier then 4. :S If we drive fast we could be there at 6. But thats if we can shave an hour and a half off the time. :'(

Jenn,
In Denver there's a separate Continental Building with its own hours for pickup. What you need to do is call Continental (you can find their number on their website) and ask what the hours are for their Cargo building. Usually they close at 8 or 9 or 30 minutes after the latest flight. When we have to drive down to Denver (we've shipped in twice) they hold the animals in the cargo building until you can get there provided it's before they close. If you can't get there before closing they will kennel the animals overnight and you'll have to pay for it. I got there as soon as the flight on my hedgies but the first Chins I shipped in had to wait a bit and they were just fine. Generally they don't feed or water them unless they're instructed to though and they don't open the kennels if they don't absolutely have to so I would try not to be too late. An hour is NOT going to make a big difference as long as they are open that late so unless they close earlier I wouldn't sweat it too much. :)

Well.... my experience was quite interesting. I drove down there... got there an hour and a half late :S Poor lil guys (and gals). And waited for 2 hours until someone finally showed up at the baggage claim. Theyre were sitting right there and it took 2 seconds and we were on our way. I will definately be writing continental and telling them i am very displeased with thier service. But my gliders were okay. I was surprised how they were packages.... interesting box. And the first time they made a noise... I was is shock. :P They're so cute... and one got out of the box on the way home... cus I had opened the lid and was checking on them... and out she jumped.... and I chased her all around the truck... she even climbed on the steering wheel. :P What'a cutie!!!

I'm glad to hear it all worked out in the end. I was super nervous for you about them closing before you got there. I would have been on nerve ends the entire drive there. Make sure you post some pics of your new little ones :)
