I am taking Frodo and Marco to a show-and-tell Monday in ENGL Comp class. For my first essay last month, I wrote a process essay about bathing a hedgehog. It generated a lot of interest in class and I ended up showing the DVD I have of Frodo tubing. Now, my instructor has requested that I bring in Frodo for everyone to see. I'm taking Marco as well so that they can see the difference between an Albino and a Chocolate. Frodo is very friendly and loves new people. (New smells and sounds) Marco on the other hand, is really shy and timid. I don't want to stress the little guy out so Dar is going to class with me, then bringing them back home while I stay. I'm NOT good at public speaking at all! Any suggestions on what I should say? How I should handle it?

Ooo, that's exciting :) Best of luck with it!

If it were me I would prepare a short talk on where they are from, what they eat, when theyre active, what they like to do (wheeling, tubing and so on) etc. Then do a little question session because I know people always have a million questions whenever I bring my boys anywhere :)

Good luck!

Wow! That's really great! Well, I know what you mean about not liking public speaking. I think that is my biggest phobia! I think keeping in mind that the focus is going to be on the hedgies and not you will be a big help in not getting too nervous!! As far as what to talk about, PrettyHate had great ideas!! Diet, how they play, annointing, sounds they make, rolling in a ball, and how they make wonderful pets. I think everyone will be charmed by Frodo and Marco!!!

I had to show off Snugs and Spike at the day care my mom works at awhile back. The kids asked so many questions that the convo on them flowed very well. And these were a bunch of kids...I'm sure college students will have much more intellegent questions to ask...At least I hope so (I've run into some not so smart adults..), But have FUN!!! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I can't wait to see what marks Frodo and Marco will get. I'm sure they'll go to the head of the class. Will they graduate? Just think of the teeny little mortar boards (sp?) they will need.

You, Frodo and Marco will do great! When I tend to presentations, I keep it pretty brief and allow more time for questions! I touch on where they are from, what I CHOOSE to feed, the fact that they are nocturnal, caging requirements, and who this would make an ideal pet for (Keep in mind I do most of my presentations to 3rd- 8th graders). I would keep it simple and I bet you would be suprised at the questions they generate :)
Let us know how it went!

Wow, how much fun!!! That's one of my favorite things to do. :) I like to concentrate more on hedgies in the wild, their predators, their diet, their characteristics, the fact they are considered pests in their native countries and then like Tawana says open it up to questions because they will ask stuff that you will kick yourself for not adding. :)

Thanks guys. All this encouragement is a great help. It really is! :)
I will only have about 15 minutes for "show and tell" but although I can put my words into focus online and on paper, I simply freeze up in person. I like all of the ideas so far. The type of food they eat, what they are like in the wild, the tubing and wheeling, annointing,,,I don't think that 15 minutes is going to be near enough. lol
What they all want to see is Frodo tubing. I've already explained that (a) she is a "night creature" and probably won't be comfortable being awake during her normal sleeping time. Thus, she might be a little grumpy. (b) Even though she DID tube during the photo shoot for the newspaper article that Dar wrote, there is no guarantee that she will when faced with a group of strangers staring at her.
Actually the more I think about it, the more I wonder if it's such a good idea at all. I don't want to unduly stress out my babies you know. lol
But then again, Dar will be there, it is only for 15 minutes or so and then Dar is taking them back home. My classmates REALLY want to see them too. I guess I'm thinking more of being nervous than if it will stress them out. These two have been out in public before but it was with Dar handling everything and I just handled the hogs. I didn't have to say anything before. I've already asked Dar to handle the talking but she told me that this was my shebang and I need to get over my fear of public speaking. :scared: Anyway, thanks everyone for your replies.
Tawana, it's great to see you back! Missed you!

Yeah, they will go to the head of the class, and I will sink through the floor! lol
I can see myself thinking of them wearing tiny Mortar Boards during the presentation and then bursting out laughing right in the middle of a serious question. Thank you Nancy for putting that idea into my head. lol
